Funded by the Ministry for Primary Industries, Checking-in is a programme that has been established to help boost well-being and support rural communities, following on from ‘The Big Check-in,’ an online event for rural people held post-cyclone in May 2023.

The project is run by Agri-Women’s Development Trust along with Rural Woman New Zealand and Farmstrong, with the support of the Rural Support Trust.

Across the North Island, the project has had a series of personal development programmes, events, and community get-togethers.  This is to continue over the next three months with AWDT ‘You Matter’ programmes, Farmstrong Comedy events and a ‘Know your mindset, lead and recovery’ online programme.

By coming together and connecting, people in the farming community can understand that they are not alone with any stress they may have not from just the past year’s weather events but also from the rise in farm operating expenses, interest rate increases, the cost of living and any other challenges they may be facing. And by having a break away from these day to day challenges, is a wonderful way for people to get refreshed and carry on.

Rural people across New Zealand are able to subscribe to the 15-part short video ‘checking-in’ tools and tips email series, featuring clips on mental well-being, supporting people through tough times, and enjoying the good times.

For more information, head to www.checking-in.co.nz to learn more and see what events are happening in your area.
